Audit and assurance

Independent audits and reviews that give owners, lenders, regulators and group parents confidence in the numbers.

An audit gives the people who rely on your financial statements, from shareholders and banks to regulators and a parent company abroad, an independent opinion on whether they give a true and fair view. We audit under International Standards on Auditing, against IFRS or IFRS for SMEs, and a partner signs every report.

We start by understanding the business and where its risks lie, then plan work that concentrates on those areas instead of running a standard checklist. That keeps the audit relevant to your business and the time on site sensible.

Several of our audit clients are subsidiaries of groups in Belgium, India and South Africa. We work to the group's reporting timetable and instructions, and prepare consolidated financial statements where a group needs them.

How it works

How an engagement runs

  1. Note 1

    Understand the business

We learn how the business works, where its risks are and what the readers of the accounts need.

  2. Note 2

    Agree the strategy

We set out the approach, the timetable and what we need from you, and agree it before fieldwork starts.

  3. Note 3

    Do the work

An efficient programme of audit procedures, focused on the areas of highest risk, with problems raised as we find them.

  4. Note 4

    Report

We draw our conclusions from the evidence and a partner signs the audit opinion.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

An audit gives reasonable assurance that the financial statements are free of material misstatement, based on testing the evidence. A review gives limited assurance, mostly from enquiry and analysis, and costs less. We can tell you which one your shareholders, lender or regulator will accept.

Yes. Many audit clients keep their own books or use another firm. We need the trial balance, the ledgers and the supporting documents, and we agree the list with you at the planning stage.

It depends on the size of the business and how ready the records are. We agree a timetable when we plan the audit and keep to it. Books that are reconciled at year end make the biggest difference.
